This 10-day 4×4 and quad expedition brings you to the highest dunes, the 300m (or 980ft) Erg Chigaga, through Zagora. This desert area is more tranquil, with luxury camps. It’s truly a memorable experience to arrive here in your quad.
Day 2: Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou (by car, 200km)
We leave early in the morning from Marrakech and venture on a windy road through the Tichka Pass (2260m) with magnificent panorama view of the Atlas mountain range. We will arrive at the famous village of Ait Ben Haddou, with a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah, where many Hollywood films took place. Check into a nice hotel and have lunch here. In the afternoon, you can explore the many alleys that go up to this kasbah. Prepare yourself for an adventure in the next few days.
Day 3: Ait Ben Haddou – Skoura (by quad, 120 km)
Today we start our quad journey through the High Atlas. Leaving Ait Ben Haddou, we drive towards Ouarzazate and visit the Studio Cinema. From Ouarzazate, we continue to Skoura oasis, an extensive valley with dense palmery scattered with kasbahs, an absolutely beautiful sight. We stay in the lovely Chez Talout hotel here.
Day 4: Skoura – Boumalne Dades (by quad, 120 km)
After breakfast, we leave the picturesque Skoura behind and continue in our quads through the High Atlas, where we will take a break and have lunch in a nice hotel in Bou Tharar in the Rose Valley. We may encounter nomads in this area if we are lucky enough. After lunch, we will keep driving to the town of Boumalne Dades, at the outlet of the upper Dades Valley. Our night will be spent in the magnificent Kasbah Tizrouine here.
Day 5: Boumalne Dades – Zagora (by quad, 180 km)
After breakfast, we will continue our journey through the Draa Valley and Saghro Massif, where Berber nomads dot the landscape of plateaus, magpies, peaks, canyons and forests. Finally we arrive in the desert town of Zagora. This is where the original, iconic ‘Tombouctou, 52 jours’ (Timbuktu, 52 days) sign is. Overnight here and absorb the history of this major caravan town at the edge of the Sahara in Kasbah Serocco (or similar style) hotel. Relax at the bar and enjoy the hammam and Moroccan massage.
Day 6: Zagora to Dune Chigaga (by quad, 160km)
We leave the comfort of Zagora and head into the desert Sahara today. With dunes stretch as far as the eyes can see, you will be completely memorized by this environment. After a long sandy day, check into a luxury desert camp with own bathroom facilities in each tent. Sit around the camp, admire the sunset on the dunes and take a sip of the Berber Whisky – the ultimate Sahara dream. If you are lucky, you will be treated with the perfect African drum beats of the camp staff/musicians. Look up and be awe by the millions of stars!
Day 7: Dune Chigaga – Foum Zguid (by quad, 110km)
After breakfast, we leave the solitude around Dune Chigaga and continue in our quads to the small Berber village at the edge of the Sahara, Foum Zguid. Today is the ‘Day of Dunes’– feel the exhilaration around these Sahara dunes in your quad! Upon arriving in Foum Zguid, we will check into a wonderful hotel with swimming pool. Dive into the cold water after a hot day of driving on the sand. What’s more to ask for?
Day 8: Foum Zguid – Ait Ben Haddou (by quad, 170 km)
Today is our last day on the quads. We leave Foum Zguid and drive through the Anti-Atlas to Taznakht, a Berber town famous for its carpet made by local woman cooperatives. We will have lunch here. After lunch, we will continue our way to the famous village of Ait Ben Haddou, with a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah, where many Hollywood films took place. Drop off your quads at our office here and congratulate yourself on an amazing quad adventure! You will stay at (or similar) luxury hotel here.
Day 9: Ait Ben Haddou to Marrakech (by car, 200 km)
After a relaxing night in Ait Ben Haddou, our guide will take you back to Marrakech, where you can do some last-minute shopping and enjoy the atmosphere at the main square of Jemaa el-Fnaa.
