Overview

If you have already had your Sahara adventure, this is the tour for you. We will take you to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, Tamnougalt where you can marvel at the different architecture style and history of the region. Then we will go further south to the most important busting caravan town of Zagora, made famous by the well known sign at the town border states “Tombouctou 52 days”, the supposed time it takes to get to Timbuktu. From there we turned back north to the fossil capital of Alnif, then through the beautiful oasis of Tinghir with the magnificent Todra gorge to Kelaat M’Gouna, famous for its rose harvest and festival every May.

marrakech2Day 1: Arrive in Marrakech

Our guide will pick you up from the airport of Marrakech and take you to a hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to walk around our famous central square, Djema el-Fna, an UNESCO world heritage site. Feel and taste the magic of this city.

 


ait_ben_haddou_2Day 2: Marrakech- Ait Ben Haddou (120 km in 4×4)

We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning in a 4×4 and we will drive through Tishka Pass (2260m) to our Berber village, Ait Ben Haddou, where the famous UNESCO world heritage kasbah is. Many Hollywood movies are filmed HERE. A guided tour will be given after lunch. The rest of the afternoon is for you to wander around. Overnight in our family guest house.


tamnougalt-palmerasDay 3: Ait Ben Haddou – Agdz – Tamnougalt (110 km in Quad)

After breakfast, we will head towards Agdz, a small but important town located on the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu. After a late lunch, we continue to Tamnougalt, a village in the Draa River valley 30km away, with a kasbah deep in history and decorated with Arab, Andalusian and Berber Jewish motifs. The rest of the afternoon is for you to explore.


Day 4: Tamnougalt – Zagora (90 km on Quad)

We depart Tamnougalt village in the morning and drive towards Zagora, famous for the well known sign at the town border states “Tombouctou 52 days”, the supposed time it takes to get to Timbuktu. Zagora got its cosmopolitan character from centuries of desert caravans passing through it, allow it to be an important trading post in the Draa valley region. Explore this busting small town on foot for the rest of your afternoon.


Alnif-fossilDay 5: Zagora  – Alnif (160 km on Quad)

After breakfast, we start driving north again to Alnif, the Fossil capital of Morocco. The Anti-Atlas Mountains are built of Paleozoic rocks between 245 and 570 million years. When these rocks were deposited, a shallow sea covered the region. When the ancient sea creatures died, their shells were preserved here. You will see lots of workers here working with chisel and basic tools, a very labour-intensive job. You are free to wander and browse for your own piece of fossil this afternoon.


tinghirDay 6: Alnif – Tinghir – Boumaine Dades (110 km in Quad)

From Alnif, we drive to Tinghir, an 30km long oasis of palm groves along Todra river. You will see amazing irrigation system that supply water to fields of dates, almonds, pomegranate, peaches, olives, figs, plum trees, tomatoes, cabbages etc. After visiting Todra Gorge with magnificent 300m high cliff, we continue to Boumaine Dades and overnight in a guest house.


kelaat_Mgouna2Day 7: Boumaine Dades – Kelaat M’Gouna – Ait Ben Haddou (130 km in Quad)

After breakfast, we start our last day of quad to Kelaat M’Gouna, best known for its Rose Festival to celebrate their harvest every May. Here is where the country’s largest rose water and rose oil manufacturers located. After a short stop, we will continue back to our village, Ait Ben Haddou. Enjoy our last dinner together.


Marrakech_soukDay 8: Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

(120 km in 4×4)

Back in our 4×4, we will head back to Marrakech today via the windy road of the Tishka Pass (2260m) again. Upon arrival around noon, you can do your last-minute shopping before heading to the airport. Airport transfer is included. (Dinner not included tonight.)
